about reincarnations

The dictionary defines 'Reincarnation' as follows:

re in car na tion n.
1. Rebirth of the soul in another body.
2. A reappearance or revitalization in another form; a new embodiment.

Reincarnations was named to reflect the transformational nature of the artistic process. Idea and inspiration become form, and form becomes function. Thought is changed into a physical reality, and the materials used in that process undergo a physical change as well, becoming something new, a manifestation of will. This concept fits perfectly with the artwork shown here, as many of the pieces are created from used furniture and other recycled materials.

history

Reincarnations was created in 1987 by Michael Vain as a vehicle for his creative talents, and as a way to earn extra income while raising two daughters on his own. Originally conceived as a means to give old, discarded furniture a new life, Michael would rescue abandoned furniture from the roadside, from flea markets and yard sales, and, using his expeiience gained from his years both as an artist and woodworker, Michael would then restore the structure of the piece, and transform it into a work of functional art.

Michael Vain, 1987

As the popularity of the work produced by the studio grew, Michael began attending small, local craft shows, and began looking to exhibit in local contemporary craft galleries. Through changes in location and relationships, Michael kept the studio goind, often putting in 18+ hour days to create and maintain the Reincarnations website, while also preparing furniture and other artworks for sale.

As time passed, and Reincarnations became more of a name in the world of contemporary craft, Michael began placing works of painted furniture in ever-increasingly perstigous galleries, and the studio became a regular at such juried craft exhibitions such as the Shaker Forest Festival, and BowieFest. Michael's wife and partner, Michelle, joined Reincarnations in 2010, and together, the husband and wife artistic team combine their talents to produce some of the most unique painted furiture and contemporary craft items found anywhere.

Reincarnations has grown since its inception to include original works of functional art, colorful, whimsical, decor items, and more.

how we are different

Reincarnations is not some mega-corporation or factory. Our workshop does not cover a city block, and our work is not created in an assembly-line fashion. All of our work is unique, with each piece being individually hand-painted for each client. We do not believe that furniture painted in any other way can be considered 'artisan craft'. We are, at our core, artists first and foremost. Our goal is not to be the richest artists on the planet, but to create works of functional art that can be treasured for years to come.

As artists, we put our heart and soul into every work of art we create, and strive to bring imagination into everything we do. We believe you will not find anything like our work anywhere else.

We at Reincarnations believe in honest working relationships with our clients. We work with our clients during every phase of our process to ensure their complete satisfaction. Should we be unable to fabricate or acquire the base furniture in the stated time, we will fully refund the client's deposit.

We use only artist's quality paints, high quality stains, and the best materials available in our work. The furniture created in our studio is made from hand-picked lumber, and made using traditional wood working techniques to ensure the highest possible quality in our work. We settle for nothing less than total satisfaction from our clients.

our mission

Our Mission at Reincarnations Painted Furniture is to bring what happiness we can into the world through our artwork, and to accentuate the positive qualities that make each of us unique. Art comes in many forms, and can instill a great range of emotions. For us, art was always a solace, a way of channelling creative energy, and we find inspiration in everything we do, and in the living of life.

We feel that almost anyone can feel the touch of the muse, and sometimes, a small amount of positive guidance or encouragement can make a world of difference. We like to nurture these ideals in our work, and in our interaction with the world.

At our studio, we strive to redefine the meaning of painted furniture as a whole, using furniture as a canvas for our imaginations, always with an eye toward revitalizing the spirit and inspiring creativity. This positive spark can then be spread to others, an energy that if nurtured and allowed to grow, can help to better the world.
